Worldwide, rats and mice spread over 35 diseases. These diseases can be spread to humans directly, through handling of rodents, through contact with rodent feces, urine or saliva, or through rodent bites. Diseases carried by rodents can also be spread to humans indirectly by ticks and mites. Diseases Include:
Hantavirus Pulmona, Apodemus Agrarius, Leptospirosis, Lymphocytic Chorio-meningitis (LCM), Salmonellosis
Rodent proofing is a vital part of a complete rodent control program. The objective is to close all present and potential openings which may serve as entries for animals. This means changing building details to prevent animals from entering. Is is important not to seal animals indoors until baiting, trapping and removal is completed. The materials for animal proofing should be critter resistant, such as sheet metal, heavy wire mesh, concrete, brick and mortar. Remember, re-infestation can occur inside animal proofed buildings when doors and windows are left open.
Animal Entry Point Identification:
Looking for sunlight around the edge (gap), – roof vents – gable vents – possible roof damage.
Gable Vents – Roof Gap – Roof Vents – Wood Damage – Dryer Vents – Ridge Vents – Brick Gaps – Crawl-Space Vents – Crawl-Space Door – Foundation Holes – Siding Gap – Siding Holes – Garage Corners – Dormer Corners

KEEPING RATS & SQUIRRELS OUT OF YOUR HOUSE
EXCLUSION IS THE CHEAPEST, EASIEST AND MOST LONG LASTING METHOD FOR CONTROLLING WILDLIFE
Squirrels are very mobile, and a pet dish or bird feeding station is “open” territory, so any and every animal will be attracted to that area to eat the food or the animals that eat the food!
Exclusion of the squirrels is the best possible method. Vents not built to code or building anomalies are often to blame. If air conditioning or other utilities are routed through aluminum gutterspouting to reach the upper floors, be sure that squirrels (and rats) are not able to use these for transportation into your house. We have had many calls from rats entering attics by using gutter-spouts to get to the roof level. The only real cure is “exclusion”.
